JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said that his political party was patiently waiting for the Democratic Alliance (DA) to leave the Government of National Unity (GNU) so that his party could participate in government.

Malema made these remarks while delivering his closing address at the party’s elective conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The EFF declined the African National Congress (ANC)'s invitation to join the GNU earlier this year, stating that it could not govern with the DA and Freedom Front Plus.

Malema is confident that the alliance between the ANC and the DA will not last until the 2029 general elections.

He pointed out that the significant policy and ideological differences between the two parties would ultimately lead to the collapse of the Government of National Unity.

Malema asserted that when this occured, the EFF would be more than prepared to step in and form a national coalition government with the ANC.

"We are waiting. We are going to enter this thing of government, we are just waiting. When they start fighting with Helen Zille, siyangena (we are entering)."

He argued that the opposing views on the BELA Bill were a clear indication of how the ANC and DA would struggle to reach consensus on many other key issues.
