JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) and state president Thabo Mbeki says the country’s first-ever national dialogue is close to becoming a reality.
The dialogue is set to bring together all sections of society, from business, traditional healers, NGOs, and others, to discuss the state of the country.

Mbeki was speaking at the South African Communist Party (SACP)’s 5th special national congress in Boksburg on Saturday.
Mbeki said he has been consulting with the ANC leadership and the president’s office on setting up this dialogue.
“This is the very first time that all our people will be coming together in all their echelons to talk about the future of South Africa, and President [Cyril] Ramaphosa has made this point that what comes out of that – because it is the people speaking – that must be binding on government. That is the importance of the outcome of that process.”
Mbeki said Ramaphosa would soon announce a preparatory committee that will handle the logistics for the dialogue.
