DURBAN - As the hype around the dramatic arrival of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party on the political scene wears off, Advocate Dali Mpofu says the organisation must focus on growing structures and consolidating support in 2025.

The MK Party received 14% support at the polls in the May elections, just months after its arrival was announced to the public.

On Sunday, the party marks its one-year anniversary in Durban, where it received a sizeable chunk of votes.

Later, supporters are set to hear from the party’s leadership, including Dr John Hlope and former President Jacob Zuma.

Meanwhile, Mpofu has told Eyewitness News that a lot of work needs to be done in preparation for the 2026 local government polls.

“Forget the drama and TV razzmatazz, go to basics, do the dirty work of organising structures and making sure in the areas you didn't perform well, that's where you grow.”

Mpofu said the lacklustre performance by the MK Party in by-elections was no indication that the party was fizzling out.
