Don't swim while drunk, avoid rip currents: NSRI warning to beachgoers
Since the start of the festive season, more than 10 people have already drowned.
CAPE TOWN -The National Sea and Rescue Institute (NSRI) is urging beachgoers to exercise caution this festive season.
This as drowning incidents increase over this period.
The Institute said most of these involve beachgoers.

The Institute's Andrew Ingram has urged swimmers to avoid rip currents in surf zones.
He said bathers should only swim where there are lifeguards on duty.
"If caught in a rip current, it is crucial to remember to stay calm: Do not panic. Conserve energy by floating. Swim out of the current. Instead of swimming directly back to land, swim sideways to escape the current’s grip. Signal for help. Raise your arm and shout for assistance if needed. If you see someone who needs help in the water, call a lifeguard or the NSRI for help. 112 is a free call from your cell phone."
Ingram also advised people to avoid swimming when under the influence of alcohol.
