Eskom technical teams investigate explosion at Matla Power Station
The power utility says unit six was damaged while unit five was put offline to ensure the safety of employees.

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom’s technical teams are investigating the cause of an explosion at the Matla Power Station in Mpumalanga where people were injured on Thursday.
The power utility says unit six was damaged while unit five was put offline to ensure the safety of employees.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokogopa is expected to visit the nine employees in the province on Friday, where he is also set to assess the impact of the transformer explosion.
"Following the transformer explosion that occurred at the station yesterday at approximately 17:00 pm," said Department of Electricity and Energy spokesperson Tsakane Khambane.
