JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chairperson in Gauteng, Nkululeko Dunga, says party structure in the province will support leader Julius Malema for re-election.
The red berets have begun their National People’s Assembly at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
One of the key items on the agenda will be the election of a new EFF president and top six officials.
Speaking on the sidelines of the gathering, Dunga emphasised that Malema remained fit to lead the party.
"The provincial general assembly has discussed the leadership question and have resolved to that the CIC Julius Malema to retain the position of the EFF."
LOYALTY A PRIORITY
Dunga said he wanted the party to use its elective conference to remove disloyal and opportunistic leaders.
This comes after several senior party members departed in recent months, most of whom have joined the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
Presenting the opening address at the conference today, Dunga said loyal members must replace what he called the betrayers.
"Let us also remember that the betrayal is not the end of the revolution. It is a test of the resilience, perseverance, and the resolve of the revolution. This assembly provides us an opportunity to recalibrate and correct past mistakes that happened here, in this particular venue. We have to guard against opportunistic and disloyal tendencies and elevate hard work, humility, and loyalty."
