JOHANNESBURG - Motorists and road users can expect a busy weekend in the South of Joburg as the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will enforce full road closures from Saturday until Sunday around the FNB Stadium and Nasrec Expo Centre.
The road closures are set to accommodate US artist Chris Brown who will hold a two-day concert at the FNB Stadium.
At the same time, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is currently holding its elective conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre until Sunday.
The closures will be implemented to manage the increased traffic volumes anticipated from 11:00am on both concert days for the Chris Brown show.
The following roads will be affected:
-
Soweto Highway
-
Golden Highway
-
Nasrec Road
-
Booysens Reserve Road
Meanwhile, for the EFF National People’s Assembly at Nasrec, motorists can expect closures on Nasrec Road, Rand Show Road and Commerce Street.
To reduce congestion on the roads, concertgoers are encouraged to utilise Park and Ride buses which will be available at various locations including Sandton, Melrose Arch, Centurion Mall, and Gold Reef City Casino.
While Gautrain, trains and buses will operate with increased frequency to accommodate concert-goers from Park Station to FNB Stadium and back.
A designated E-hailing drop-and-go will also be available.
