Taxi driver arrested after attempt to smuggle undocumented foreign nationals into SA

JOHANNESBURG - A taxi driver has been arrested after he allegedly tried to smuggle undocumented foreign nationals including 20 children into the country from Zimbabwe.
The Border Management Authority (BMA) said 25 people were in the vehicle while passing through the Beitbridge border on Monday.

The authority’s Mmemme Mogotsi said the children aged between 5 and 14 were being transported under inhumane and dangerous conditions.
“The vehicle that was used in the operation was immediately impounded. The driver has been charged and is in police custody. And a conveyance fine of R375,000 has been issued in accordance with the Immigration Act.”
