JOHANNESBURG - The disgraced president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, is on Tuesday expected to launch an application to have charges dropped before the Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge, in Gauteng’s East Rand.

Jordaan appeared before the court last week for the disclosure of the docket by the State.

The case was postponed to Tuesday, where Jordaan and his co-accused are expected to argue that their case may be met with unreasonable delays due to other ongoing legal battles.

The soccer boss is facing fraud and theft charges amounting to about R1.3 million.

Jordaan is expected to apply for his charges to be dropped in terms of the Criminal Procedures Act when he makes his third appearance in the East Rand court.

Through his legal counsel, Jordaan is anticipated to argue that the ongoing legal battles involving the SAFA may lead to unreasonable delays in the case, particularly the State’s case against the federation in the Gauteng Division of the High Court.

SAFA and Jordaan approached the superior court, arguing that the raid at SAFA House earlier in 2024 was unlawful and malicious.

It is upon this basis that the accused will argue that the matter should be thrown out.
