Metro Police Commissioner Sibonelo Mchunu has urged the new officers to make people safety their priority.
"Many people are coming to Durban for holidays, and they are relying on you not to be attacked, stabbed or harmed in any way - that responsibility is with you and your experienced colleagues who you are going to join," he said.
