Joburg Council approves 5-year water conservation plan

JOHANNESBURG - The Joburg Council has approved a five-year water conservation and demand management plan to tackle the city’s woes.
During a media briefing at Joburg Water’s headquarters on Monday it was announced that the plan forms part of the National Treasury’s trading services reforms for metros.

In the plan, the utility aims to repair bulk water meters, detect leaks, and replace pipes – while also reducing wastage by 37,000 mega-litres.
Joburg Water CEO, Ntshavheni Mukwevho said the city has already begun implementing some of the strategies.
"All eight metros are expected to participate but of course, we are not all at the same stage I can report to you that we are participating as the City of Johannesburg and we have complied with all requirements of National Treasury."
