Gauteng parents have until end January 2025 to finalise school placements for Grade 1 and 8
On Monday, the education department provided an update on the placement status for more than 325,000 pupils for the next school year.

JOHANNESBURG -There's some good news for more than 19,000 parents whose applications for grade 1 and 8 placements were incomplete.
The provincial education department provided an update on the placement status of more than 325,000 learners for the 2025 school year.
It says 157,000 grade 1 leaners have been successfully placed and most of the 167 ,000 grade 8 pupils are also taken care of.
There are about 124 learners still waiting for placement.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane explained that parents have from the 11th of December until 30 January to finalise their applications.
"So these 19,000 they are going to have go and choose schools on the portal. They can only choose from the available schools and not select a random school and run to the district."
The department said that it successfully placed all grade 1 applications for the 2025 academic year.
Applications for prospective grade 1 and grade 8 learners opened earlier this year and closed in September.
Chiloane also confirmed that 99.93 percent of the new grade 8 leaners have been placed.
The department has opened a window incomplete applications, parents now have from 11 DEC till 30 JAN to complete their applications to secure a place for their children.
