JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng’s Education Department is set to provide an update on Monday on the placement of Grade 1 and 8 learners for the 2025 school year.
The online application process, which opened in July, was initially slated to close in mid-August but faced a two-day extension due to system glitches.
In September, the department announced its plan to place over 300,000 successfully completed applications from the 340,000 unique submissions.
Earlier in 2024, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane revealed that out of over 800,000 applications received, nearly 19,000 were incomplete.
The department is focusing on ensuring the first wave of successful applicants are placed before addressing the remaining ones.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona said that Monday’s briefing will outline the progress made so far.
