CAPE TOWN - The Elsies River Community Policing Forum (CPF) said that some surrounding areas remain too volatile to negotiate a ceasefire with gangs over the festive season.
Scores of residents from Bishop Lavis, Elsies River, Ravensmead and Uitsig gathered at Elsies Civic Centre on Sunday to hold a mass prayer against gang violence.
The forum's spokesperson, Imraahn Mukaddam said a delegation had been elected to negotiate a ceasefire deal with gang leaders.
"In most of the other areas they have succeeded to engage the known leaders. They will respect the wishes of the community. It's a wait and see, we can go into 2025 with less bloodshed, with more hope."
