SAA pilots back in the air after suspension of two-day strike

The SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA) announced the suspension of the strike after a lengthy engagement with the carrier’s management.

JOHANNESBURG - South African Airways (SAA) has offered its pilots a 9.47 percent salary increase.

 This follows a two-day strike , where pilots were demanding 15.7% pay hike.

After reaching a conditional agreement SAA said that negotiations will continue over the next eight weeks. 

Spokesperson Vimla Maistry has further apologised to the airline's passengers for the disruptions. 

"We understand that the interrupted travel plans can be frustrating and SAA apologises for all the inconvenience."

Striking South African Airways (SAA) pilots are now back in the air after two days of protest.

The SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA) announced the suspension of the strike after a lengthy engagement with the carrier’s management.

Pilots made a 15.7% wage increase demand and improved working conditions but SAA offered a 7% increase.

OVER 100 PILOTS RETURN TO THEIR CABINS

More than 100 South African Airways pilots returned to their cabins on Saturday.

The institute’s management and its pilots have reached a conditional agreement of a 9.47% wage increase and an eight-week-long workplace improvement programme.

“SAA is expected to return to 100% flight schedule by Sunday, 8 December 2024, with more than 100 pilots returning to their duties by 12:00 today, 7 December 2024,” said Maistry.
