JOHANNESBURG - Residents of Gosforth Park in Ekurhuleni say they are tired of cable theft that constantly leaves them in the dark.
This month alone their cables have been stolen three times.
The community has to rely on private security to guard their cables.
Khondani Munyangane, a resident in the area, said they are in the dark in terms of what is happening.
"It seems like there is something that is going on in the background that we don't know about."
Cables in the area have been stolen six times in the past two months.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a cable that was repaired by the municipality the previous night was stolen again, leaving residents in darkness once more.
“The cable leading to a block of flats as well as the Germiston High School has been stolen on numerous occasions. It’s about a 20-25 metre piece of cable that’s in the exact same spot that has been stolen,” said Ward 39 councillor Jean Ingram.
