DURBAN - The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says it cannot guarantee when the long-distance strike will end.

This comes as striking operators are set to continue on Friday.

The taxi council said it met with the striking operators in Durban on Thursday.

Some of them said they also want their concerns addressed over some of their routes not appearing on the approved permits.

Striking operators in Durban said the approved permits they are expected to collect exclude some of their regular routes.

Taxi boss Mavava Sikhakhane said, “Some of the permits that they speak about have excluded some routes from the Durban station. So, if we take those permits, which association will those routes be granted under?”

Meanwhile, KZN SANTACO chairperson Boy Zondi said he has urged the striking workers to return to work while their concerns are being addressed.

“Even though there are certain concerns, we are saying to them they must carry on uplifting permits whilst we are trying to address the other routes that are not appearing in their permits.”

The strike is expected to enter its ninth day on Friday, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

This has also affected those running businesses in taxi ranks.
