JOHANNESBURG - Late struggle icon Chris Hani’s widow Limpho Hani and the South African Communist Party (SACP) have called for an inquest into the death of the anti-apartheid activist.

The joint call comes amid the deportation of his killer, Janusz Waluś to Poland on Friday.

Waluś assassinated the SACP General Secretary in 1993 in an attempt to plunge South Africa into civil war just as the country was to usher in democracy.

Limpho Hani and the SACP have objected to the Polish National’s freedom, saying there are still questions related to the murder of the SACP leader that remain unanswered.

Hani and the SACP made their request for an inquest known during a meeting with government officials, informing them of Waluś imminent freedom.

Newly appointed Justice Minister, Mamoloko Kubayi said government will consider the plea.

"We will definitely engage with them. We will take the process, and look at the legal framework because they believe that there's evidence that could have led to a different conclusion. There are things that they believe were not looked into."

Hani and the SACP said Waluś' parole and freedom disregard that there was no full disclosure of the truth regarding the assassination.

And as a result, justice remains incomplete without the closure they seek.
