CAPE TOWN - Some of the Western Cape police officers who've received medals for long service said it had been an honour to serve and protect the people of province.

More than 100 men and women in blue were honoured by senior police management at a medal parade ceremony in Cape Town on Wednesday.

EWN spoke to a recently retired policeman who served the SAPS for 40 years.

Colonel Chris Labuschagne said that the four decades had been challenging and fun at the same time.

"My attitude in life was to get up in the morning and go to work and do the best I can, so with that method it was always fun going to work and to see what challenges lie ahead."
