JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it's still experiencing challenges finalising corruption matters.
There are 34 cases enrolled and 128 cases awaiting decisions in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit.
The prosecuting body says cases require prosecutors with specialised skills.
The NPA briefed the media earlier on Thursday on the performance of the Gauteng division in Pretoria including in some high-profile cases.
It admitted some processes affected its ability to conclude criminal cases.
"In most matters, there will be a need to have expert witnesses in the form of forensic investigators. And those forensic investigators would usually have to deal with voluminous documentation in their investigation to ensure that they generate or produce a report that will be befitting to be put before court. And once that investigation has been done, the matter is not just going to be enrolled.
"The prosecutor would then have to apply his mind to what has been done. And that, as well, the prosecutor would need some time to do. And we cannot hurry the matter for the simple reason that we need to enrol. We have to make sure that certain issues have been attended to," said the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Billy Molausi.
