JOHANNESBURG - The lawyers representing Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula say they are “disappointed” the State was not ready to argue in their application to disclose further information on the corruption case.

Mapisa-Nqakula is charged with 12 counts of corruption and one of money laundering.

The allegations date back to her time as defence minister when she allegedly solicited and received bribes amounting to R4.5 million from a defence contractor.

Mapisa-Nqakula appeared in the Pretoria High Court on Thursday.

Among the disclosures Mapisa-Nqakula seeks from the State is the investigation diary, which contains a timeline.

In her court papers, she believes her charges are politically motivated.

The former National Assembly speaker said her legal troubles with the State started after she established a Parliamentary inquiry into the Phala Phala burglary.

However, she could not make that case to court on Thursday as the State needed more time to prepare opposing arguments.

Mapisa-Nqakula’s lawyer, Reg Willis: “My lord, suffice to say we are disappointed we couldn’t bring this matter before you today [Thursday], what my learned friend conveyed regarding the date is correct, we have agreed on a date.”

The hearing will now take place on 20 January 2025.
