CAPE TOWN - Police officers who go above and beyond their call of duty have been honoured by Western Cape senior management at an award ceremony in Cape Town.
On Wednesday, senior provincial police management presented medals of bravery and long service to some of its members at a medal parade in Belhar.
Newly promoted police officers were also presented with their new police ranks at a ceremony attended by more than 200 police officers.
Six members were awarded Silver Cross Medals for their bravery in the line of duty.
One of those officers, Sergeant Samuel Piet, explained what this award meant to him.
"It's nice to be recognised and acknowledged, but at the time we don't do it for the medal though. So, I'm feeling a sense of gratitude and I'm grateful."
He's one of the police officers who managed to save a family of three, whose house was washed away in the 2021 devastating floods in Swellendam.
