IFP Youth Brigade calls on KZN Premier to intervene in taxi strike

DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Youth Brigade has called on the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial government to intervene in the ongoing taxi strike.
Wednesday marks six days since the Durban Long Distance Association went on strike over their impounded vehicles.
Several of its vehicles have been impounded by the Transport Department for violating permit regulations.
As a result, thousands of commuters have been affected.

Since last Friday, KZN residents have had to deal with blocked routes including major ones like the N3 highway, while some parts of Durban experienced burning tyres by taxi operators.
This is the second protest by the Durban Long Distance Association in recent months.
They said the government’s Operation Shanela which demands them to have permits, was disturbing their business.
The KZN Transport Department said it was sitting with more than 5,000 permits which still need to be collected.
The IFP Youth Brigade said if Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli doesn’t intervene, many people may not be able to travel home for the festive season.
