CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa says he wants to see more Nigerian products on South African shelves and greater investment between the two countries.

Ramaphosa says the two countries are united both in “purpose and vision” and the two powerhouses have every reason to strengthen their economic ties.

Ramaphosa and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu were making opening remarks on Tuesday at the South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission in Parliament.

President Ramaphosa and his Nigerian counterpart Bola Tinubu emphasised the need for the two countries to continue working closely.

The Bi-National Commission comes as the two countries mark three decades of diplomatic relations established in February 1994.

But Ramaphosa wants to see more Nigerian investment in the country.

"We look forward to seeing more Nigerian companies investing in South Africa. In fact, we want to see more Nigerian products on the shelves of South African shops.

Tinubu, meanwhile, says Nigeria is proud to be like a brother to South Africa having stood by the African National Congress (ANC) during apartheid.

"We are proud to be a brother’s keepers, and that South Africa is our serious brother at such a critical time."

But Tinubu said the several MOUs between the two countries will be meaningless without proper implementation.
