JOHANNESBURG - The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has kicked off its Gauteng leg of public consultations on Eskom's proposed tariff hikes.

The power utility has applied for a 36% increase for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Eskom is also requesting 11% and 9% increases for the two following years.

Since earlier in December, NERSA has been going around the country seeking comments on Eskom's applications.

NERSA spokesperson Charles Hlebela said the consultations are in Soweto on Tuesday.

"Those comments and inputs from stakeholders and members of the public in general can be taken into consideration by the energy regulator when making the final decision on Eskom’s application."

Eskom's application for 2026/27 is 11.8% and for 2027/28 is 9.1%.
