CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Social Development says it is in contact with Eastern Cape authorities to trace the families of the victims of the N1 bus crash in Worcester. 

Eight people, including six children, died when the bus, travelling from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town, overturned at Roux Park on Sunday.

Twenty-two others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Western Cape social development MEC Jaco Londt said the survivors were receiving the necessary attention and support. 

"Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones, especially the parents of the young child, whose lives were tragically cut short. Social workers from the Western Cape Social Development were on the scene shortly after the accident occurred to assist with social support," said Londt.
