KZN Transport Dept says taxi drivers should approach courts over impounded vehicles
Operators are raising complaints about Operation Shanela, which demands them to have permits to operate.

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal's Transport Department says taxi operators demanding their impounded vehicles must approach the courts to resolve the issue.
This comes after long-distance operators in Durban went on strike on Friday leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
Operators are raising complaints about Operation Shanela, which demands that they have permits to operate.
Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said that the department would ensure that there was stability.
"The MEC wishes to assure the people of KwaZulu-Natal and the whole country and the country, especially those who will be visiting KZN that he is doing everything in his power to ensure that the taxi industry is stable this follows the strike by the Durban Long DistanceAassociation."
Sibiya added that the matter was now out of the department's jurisdiction.
"The cars are now under the Department of Justice, and all is required is for the taxi operators to approach the magistrates court and pay the fine."
