Prioritising men's health: 'Build community, get active, eat healthy' - Global health advisor

Graeme Raubenheimer speaks to Dr Chris van Straten, Global Health Advisor Clinical Governance, International SOS.

Listen to their conversation in the audio clip below.

Research conducted globally indicates that men generally don't prioritise their health.

Statistics reveal that men face higher rates of non-communicable diseases, injuries, and unhealthy lifestyle habits compared to women.

Furthermore, data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) shows that men have poorer smoking practices, less healthy dietary patterns, higher alcohol consumption levels, and a greater incidence of injuries than women.

Van Straten provides steps on how men can prioritise their health:

Step 1: Build community

"We have got to be reaching out more to each other."
 - Dr Chris van Straten, Global health advisor

Step2: Get active

"We have to move for our mental health, physical health, overall health."
- Dr Chris van Straten, Global health advisor

Step3: Eat healthy

"What you put in your mouth in terms of food and drink, it tallies up. What you do now is going to be critical in five years, 10 years, 20 years. It can make a big difference."
- Dr Chris van Straten, Global health advisor

In addition to these steps, it's also vital for men to go for regular health check-ups.
