CAPE TOWN - The Hawks said former national cricketer, Gulam Bodi, approached several of his teammates to participate in match-fixing during three T20 games in the 2015/2016 T20 Ram Slam Challenge.
The revelation followed the directorate's arrest of three former Proteas players between 18 and 29 November.
Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Thami Tsolekile, and Ethy Mbhalati appeared before the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday.
Tsotsobe and Tsolekile are facing five counts of corruption under Section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.
"Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya, national head of the DPCI, commended the team for their unwavering commitment to tackling corruption, even in sectors where it often goes unnoticed," said Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale.
"Corruption undermines the integrity of sport, and the Hawks are determined to safeguard the values of fairness and professionalism in all areas of society. We thank Cricket South Africa for their cooperation and commitment to addressing this scourge."
