CAPE TOWN - The Anti-Apartheid Movement of South Africa is protesting outside the US Embassy in Cape Town, on Friday, to mark the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with Palestine.
The United States (US) administration has been accused of violating its laws to support Israel by continuing to ship weapons to the country.
Thousands of people have been killed since October 2023 in an onslaught which was triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel.
South Africa has continually shown solidarity with Palestine and this week welcomed a peace treaty between Israel and Lebanon.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) who are the organisers of Friday's protest at the US Embassy, said the United States is complicit in the attacks on Gaza.
COSATU Secretary General Solly Phetoe: "It's because of US' involvement in supporting Israel. We don't think that is correct. We can see the us consulate in almost all parts of the country...
"They continue to do wrong things... New liberal imperialists that are being adjudicated in relation to the attack on Palestine. That's why we are here."
