JOHANNESBURG - Political parties only received R8.5 million in donations between June and September 2024.
This is the second-lowest quarter ever declared by the Electoral Commission of South Africa since the Political Party Funding Act came into law in April 2021.
With the elections having come and gone, political donors are keeping their money in their pockets.
Only three political parties declared donations for the second quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
The African National Congress (ANC) leads the way with R7.2 million.
The donations came in three tranches from two companies, Safdev and Valumax projects.
Both companies are owned by real estate investoFrancois Bekker.
The other declarations came from the Democratic Alliance (DA) with just over R1 million and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) with R213,000.
