JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it has a solid case against former South African Airways (SAA) audit chair Yakhe Kwinana.
On Tuesday, Kwinana appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge.
She is facing charges of fraud and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
The charges relate to a 2011 audit tender awarded to two private companies with which Kwinana had personal business dealings that she did not declare at the time.

Kwinana, the right-hand woman of the late Dudu Myeni, is the 28th person to be arrested and charged in connection with recommendations made by the Zondo Commission into state capture.
According to the State, in 2011, Kwinana played a role in approving the awarding of a R59 million auditing tender to two companies, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Nkonki Incorporated.
Kwinana had personal business dealings with both companies, which she failed to declare to the board.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said they are confident in the case.
“The case was enrolled after the prosecutor established that there are prospects of a successful prosecution, and we are well aware that more needs to be done in terms of fighting the scourge of corruption that has plagued our country.”
The case was adjourned to 29 January to allow the State to provide Kwinana with copies of the docket.
