CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Finance says R250 million will be allocated to compensate educators in the province.
A further R600 million will be made available to deal with teaching post and learner enrolment pressures.
Western Cape Minister of Finance Deidré Baartman tabled the medium-term budget policy statement and the adjustments budget on Tuesday.
"This budget brings to life our commitment to making the Western Cape a place where everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, safety, and economic opportunities."
Baartman said that at least 75% of additional provincial funding was going towards protecting frontline services.
"With this budget, we will build a province that thrives through resilience, growth, and innovation. We will protect frontline services and safeguard our province against the effects of climate change."
Baartman said that R251 million had also been allocated for the rapid school build programme in the province.
