Over 40,000 people arrested in KZN since August, says top cop Mkhwanazi

DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested over 40,000 people linked to various crimes since August, this year.
Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi gave an update of police operations in the province over the last three months.
Mkhwanazi said that officers had been hard at work in KZN.
"From 1 August to 22 November this year, KZN police have arrested 42,079 suspects for various categories of crime. Over 14,000 of them were arrested for contact crimes.”
Mkhwanazi added that the province also recorded nearly 1,000 murders in the same period.
"Nine hundred and twenty-six suspects were arrested for murder, 986 were arrested for attempted murder and 8,139 suspects were arrested for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm."
