CAPE TOWN - The sexual assault trial of a former Rondebosch Boys’ Prep School teacher, Ian Wares, is expected to resume at the Wynberg Regional Court on Tuesday.
The 85-year-old is accused of multiple counts of sexual and physical abuse of young boys in South Africa and the United Kingdom (UK).
One of his alleged victims, a former pupil at Rondebosch Boys’ Prep School, accuses him of abusing him in the 1980s.
Wares was arrested in 2019 on several sexual assault charges and remains out on bail.
In September, a second State witness was expected to take the stand, but her testimony was postponed after the presiding magistrate called in sick.
Wares is also facing extradition to the UK, where he will face similar charges.
It is not yet clear whether he will appeal a Western Cape High Court ruling granting his extradition to Scotland.
The State has indicated that it will oppose any appeal or review brought by Wares’s lawyers.
