CAPE TOWN - The Wynberg Magistrates Court has heard how the wife of one of the policemen linked to a multi-million rand jewellery heist has been struggling to get her cancer treatment due to his arrest.

This as Sergeant Jacobus Groenewald's medical aid has reportedly been terminated after he was charged on house robbery charges.

Groenewald, together with Bradley Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya, and Bathandwa Soldati are accused of stealing R20 million worth of jewellery from a house in Llandudno on 14 September.

A visibly emotional Jacobus Groenewald was back on the witness stand on Tuesday, to testify how a cancerous lump was found on his wife's neck four years ago.

Groenewald, who broke down in tears at times, said the lump was successfully removed a couple of years ago, and his wife has been undergoing treatment since.

He told the court, now that the medical aid was terminated, his wife had been unable to get her cancer medication.

The bail hearing continues on Wednesday with investigating officer, Aldrich Duister, on the witness stand for the State.
