DURBAN - Nearly 240 police officers have left the police service in KwaZulu-Natal in the last three months.
KZN police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said that the reasons varied from dismissals to resignations.
He was addressing the media in Durban on Tuesday afternoon, reflecting on policing in the province.
Mkhwanazi said that most officers left the service on their own.
"During the same period, 46 police officers because they took pension, 13 officers retired due to ill-health whilst 37 police officers took early retirement - 97 police officers resigned."
He added that over 46 were fired for misconduct.
"Eleven officers left the service after they were dishonorably discharged. Those were the members that were involved in some criminal activities and face disciplinary hearings - 35 police officers were dismissed after guilty verdicts were handed against them during disciplinary processes."
