'Whether they are armed or not, we don't want to be long in Stilfontein,' says police minister

The retrieval mission for illegal miners or zama zamas in the North West is ongoing. After delivering the quarterly crime statistics, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said assessments at the shaft are still being conducted, but police plan to conclude the operation 'as soon as possible'. Mchunu also addressed the increasing cases of foodborne illnesses, saying police would intervene if spaza shops that did not register with local government continued operating.
