Psychosocial support expected to start at Diepkloof primary school after pupil’s death

JOHANNESBURG - Psychosocial support is expected to start on Monday at a primary school in Diepkloof, Soweto, after a pupil died from suspected poisoning.
The eight-year-old fell ill on Wednesday after eating biscuits allegedly bought from a spaza shop.
The grade 2 pupil was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on Friday, where the child was declared dead after the situation worsened.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said MEC Matome Chiloane would be at the school on Monday.
“The MEC will subsequently visit the family of the deceased just to extend his condolences. The psychosocial team has already been dispatched to the school to provide necessary support.”
