CAPE TOWN - There's concern around the alarming rate of truck crashes.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has reported more than 2,200 fatal truck crashes involving over 3,500 trucks over a five-year period.

These collisions tend to cause the highest fatalities, severe injuries and extensive property damage.

DSC Attorneys partner, Kirstie Haslam, said that authorities had a big role to play.

"They also have a duty to monitor and maintain roads. I've been involved in a number of cases against authorities involving potholes and you have maintenance teams, whose duty is to inspect routes on a regular basis and take the appropriate action."
