2 Strand women arrested in connection with alleged Thailand holiday scam

CAPE TOWN - Two women have been arrested in connection with an alleged Thailand holiday scam.
The suspects, from Strand, were charged with fraud, theft and money laundering involving R1.9 million.
It's alleged that they promised would-be travellers a trip to Thailand with flights and accommodation for R26,000.
Police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie, said that when the trip failed to happen, multiple criminal complaints were opened at police stations in various provinces.
"Investigations revealed that between the 1st of the 6th month in 2022 and the 30th of the 7th month in 2024, a total number of 80 victims saw an advertisement on social media platforms about a trip to Thailand."
