JOHANNESBURG - Former president Jacob Zuma says he will now consult with his legal team following his expulsion from the African National Congress (ANC).

On Friday, the ANC’s national disciplinary committee rejected Zuma’s appeal against his expulsion.

The ANC expelled Zuma in July this year after it found him guilty of bringing the organisation into disrepute by forming and campaigning for another political organisation.

Zuma has been a member of the former liberation party for over six decades.

Spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation, Mzwanele Manyi:

“We as a foundation note the decision made by the ANC National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal confirming the alleged expulsion of its Patron, H.E. President Zuma, from his 65-year-long membership of the ANC. H.E. President Zuma remains fully engaged in his political and social commitments.

Manyi said Zuma strongly rejects his expulsion.

“President Zuma strongly rejects the notion that the ANC under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa has the authority to expel him from the movement to which he has dedicated all his life.”

Manyi added that Zuma was exploring legal avenues.

“In the coming days, H.E. President Zuma will consult with his legal team, his ANC representative, Cde Tony Yengeni, his family, and his political comrades to deliberate on the way forward. Once a decision has been reached, it will be communicated to the nation by H.E. President Zuma.”
