The Standing Committee on Scrutiny of Subordinate Legislation said that these regulations require schools to inform the district office, get approval for water-based trips, assess the risks and include the School Governing Body (SGB) in the planning.

JOHANNESBURG - A Committee in the Gauteng Legislature said that schools are non-compliant with regulations for school tours.
The Standing Committee on Scrutiny of Subordinate Legislation said that these regulations require schools to inform the district office, get approval for water-based trips, assess the risks and include the School Governing Body (SGB) in the planning.
The committee conducted its third oversight visit in the province by going to Queensland Primary School in Pretoria this week.
Earlier this year, a pupil at the school drowned during a tour.
Committee Chairperson Matshidiso Mfikoe said that schools have not implemented the regulations.
"We found that the school, as much as they do have an idea of the regulations, they are totally non-compliant with those regulations, including mitigating measures of undertaking these threats and protecting the pupils."
