CAPE TOWN - One of the world's premier trail running events, the RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town (UTCT), is taking place this weekend and will see the iconic Table Mountain transform into an epic battleground between Friday and Sunday.

The event has again attracted more than 2,800 athletes, including top international ultra trail runners from more than 66 countries.

Race director, Stuart McConnachie, said that as the final race of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors, the RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town had positioned itself as a bucket-list destination for elite athletes and adventure enthusiasts alike.

McConnachie said ultra trail running wasn't just a sport but a journey of self-discovery and the courses through Table Mountain would push runners to their limits while surrounding them with some of the most awe-inspiring scenery on the planet.

"We encourage all Capetonians to join us along the route. It is a major part of what the event is all about - the community coming out to cheer the athletes on."
