CAPE TOWN -The Democratic Alliance (DA) has presented a comprehensive plan to combat extortion and wants Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to act on it urgently.

The party on Thursday presented its five-point plan which focuses on centralised intelligence gathering and analysis and "targeted operations and disruption of syndicates" among others.

"The last two or three points regarding intelligence is to make sure we have got a centralised intelligence database. Different entities need to speak with each other. It's impossible for us to run this property if different policing entities, the private sector and even community structures don’t have a way of centralising information," said the DA's spokesperson on police, Ian Cameron.

DA spokesperson Karabo Khakhau wants the plan implemented.

"We've given you a five-point plan on how to do so. The only thing that needs to happen is for this document not just be read but the Police Ministry to copy, paste it and roll it out," said Khakhau.
