CAPE TOWN - A senior Hawks officer has revealed how a self-confessed hitman told him he was hired to kill alleged underworld figure, Andre Naude, by Nafiz Modack.

Modack and 14 others face 122 charges for crimes related to operating a criminal enterprise.

Lieutenant-Colonel Pieter Joubert testified on Thursday about how his investigations linked Modack to the charges he faces.

Joubert testified about how a member of the Terrible West Siders gang was hired to assassinate Naude on behalf of Modack.

The gunman, who can only be identified as "Mister A", admitted to firing several shots at Naude's home in Bellville on 6 September 2019.

Naude is a known associate of Jerome "Donkie" Booysen, who is alleged to be Modack's underworld rival.

Joubert told the court he visited Nister A at Pollsmoor Prison in 2021 when he openly confessed to being a hitman and committing two murders on behalf of Modack.

Joubert said that Mister A's confession formed the basis of the Hawks' case to implicate Modack and his co-accused for running a criminal enterprise.

The trial continues.
