CAPE TOWN - Police visibility has been heightened in Elsies River following the killing of a 14-year-old pupil on Tuesday.

Ravensmead High School pupil, Jahmiel van Reenen, was shot dead in front of his home while on his way to school.

Two other learners, 15-year-old Lulama Gabuza, and a 17-year-old boy were also shot and wounded in the attack.

Police said that two gunmen allegedly jumped out of a car and randomly started shooting at them.

The motive is unknown at this stage.

Elsies River resident, Simone Asia, said she suspects that gangsters shot innocent children for no reason.

"It's the same thing every day. We're living in fear, and the children can't even play in the parks. This is not our war, and they come shoot three of our Rasta children. So where does that leave us."

Church and community leader, Pastor George Taylor, said that the community was devastated.

"Because this is not happening on a weekly or a bi-monthly basis, this is happening on a daily basis."
