CAPE TOWN - Tensions are high in Elsies River following the killing of a 14-year-old boy on Tuesday.
Jahmiel van Reenen, a grade 8 learner at Ravensmead High School, was shot and killed in front of his home while on his way to school.
His school friends, 15-year-old Lulama Gabuza, and a 17-year-old boy were also shot and wounded during the incident.
They're both recovering in hospital.
A visibly distraught father of the deceased child, Alrich Petrus, told EWN that he witnessed his son being shot dead by an unknown gunman.
Petrus said he had just said goodbye to him when he heard gunshots.
"After a few seconds, I just heard the shots. The saddest part is that when I looked out of the kitchen, I could still see the guy shooting but I couldn’t see his face. But I didn’t know it was my child at that time."
Petrus said he still doesn’t understand why his son was killed as he wasn’t a gangster.
