JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has filed an application to reverse the awarding of a multi-million rand tender to former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe’s company.
The SIU confirmed on Monday that it approached the special tribunal, requesting the procurement of the tender be declared invalid.
In 2017, Mabe’s Enviro Mobi was awarded a R27 million tender by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture to provide the City of Ekurhuleni with 200 tuk-tuks.
It’s alleged the company was awarded the contract irregularly and misrepresented itself during the bidding process.
The special tribunal’s main responsibility is to recover funds diverted from the public purse through fraud, corruption, and illicit money flows.

The SIU’s investigation uncovered Mabe’s company did not comply with procurement regulations and failed to deliver the contracted services.
SIU spokesperson Kaiser Kganyago confirmed that the unit is now working to reverse the awarding of the tender.
"The SIU has filed a review application at the Special Tribunal to nullify the tender award and recover the funds that were unlawfully paid to Mabe's company, Groen Mintirho. The SIU is authorised by the Special Investigating Unit and Special Tribunals Act (74 of 1996) to take civil action in the special tribunal or high court to address any wrongdoing uncovered in its investigations. Any evidence pointing to criminal conduct is referred to the National Prosecuting Authority for further action", said Kganyago.
The Special Tribunal has also granted the SIU’s request to attach assets belonging to Mabe’s company, including a house in the luxurious Steyn City estate and a Porsche 911 Carrera.
