Proflight Zambia soars to new heights launching direct flights between Livingstone & Cape Town
Flights lift off from 1 December 2024.
Africa Melane chats to Captain Josias Walu Walubita, Director Flight Operations at Proflight Zambia about their new route between Cape Town and Livingstone.
Proflight Zambia has announced the launch of direct flights between Livingstone and Cape Town from 1 December 2024, offering travellers a seamless connection between two of Southern Africa’s prominent tourist destinations.
Flights between Lusaka and Cape Town will now route via Livingstone with a 30-minute technical stop in Livingstone – all passengers will remain on board during the stopover.
The new routing will provide the Livingstone/Cape Town market with a direct service while simultaneously unlocking increased seat availability for the Lusaka/Cape Town market.
It is further expected to address challenges related to baggage limitations for passengers, allowing for a smoother, more efficient journey.
The Livingstone-Cape Town route will initially operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays.
Flight P0 050 will depart Lusaka at 06:40 and arrive in Cape Town at 11:10, with a 30-minute stopover in Livingstone.
Travellers from Livingstone can join this direct service to Cape Town at 08:10, arriving at 11:10.
On return, flight P0 051 departs Cape Town at 12:00, reaching Livingstone at 14:50, and continuing to Lusaka, arriving at 16:20..
Passengers between Lusaka and Cape Town will remain onboard during the brief Livingstone stopover.
Additionally, Proflight has scheduled an extra Saturday flight for the holiday season, running from 1 December 2024 to 5 January 2025.
"We have high holiday demand on the Lusaka route, so having a technical stop in Livingstone helps maximise our aircrafts capabilities, therefore we can carry more passenger baggage loads which further optimises the performance on the longer route..."
- Josias Walu Walubita, Director Flight Operations - Proflight Zambia
"In terms of the tourism opportunity, the timing connects two major tourist destinations, obviously Victoria Falls and Table Mountain and the Western Cape beaches... the December launch falls in line with our peak holiday season, the peak holiday season means higher leisure travel between these destinations and not forgetting the strategic alignment with Cape Town's impressive 11% year-to-date growth of international passenger traffic and of course, Cape Town's status as an international bucket list destination, makes it an ideal place for visitors to explore Zambia."
- Josias Walu Walubita, Director Flight Operations - Proflight Zambia
"This route also gives Cape Town residents easy access to both Victoria Falls and pristine Zambia Safari experiences."
